Playful Take on 70's Heritage

Farmers market favorite Tamale Box started in 2019 in Spokane WA. Flash forward a few years to 2024 and they started a brick and mortar shop in the up and coming Kendall Yards district. Desiring to bring a playful personality while retaining a sense of heritage to their brand, Tamale Box reached out to me to bring their brand to life through illustration. Tamale Box has a rich family story starting in Mexico and California and leading to Washington, retaining traditions from its early inspiration of the owners mother double sided hand tying tamales to his brother selling the tamales from buckets on bicycles in their agricultural community back in the 1970's. Taking these iconic images of location, doubled tied tamales, buckets of tamales on bikes, and family farmer heritage, I set out to create playful larger than life compositions reflecting Tamales Boxes story through the style of 1970s inspired line-work. The following includes a series of merchandise, promotional graphics and social media posts I made for Tamale Box.
